Curriculum
Pitzer's -ISM(N.) course, "Video and Diversity" was offered through two
departments at the college, Film/Video and Sociology.
Focusing on the belief that video is a powerful medium for individual and
community expression and activism, this course integrated video
production with community based learning, the study of multi-culturalism,
and community activism. Students produced videos that document how the
Pitzer community is working with local communities to advance positive
models of social change.
Community Educational Activity
Pitzer College will coordinate quarterly programming in neighboring
organizations and institutions which serve multicultural youth. This
programming will involve the screening of selected video pieces from the
Spring 1996 -ISM course followed by conversations around issues of
diversity, particularly in regard to its place on the college campus.
These program sessions will be video taped to be used for a documentary
on diversity at Pitzer College.
