Red Flag Warning

redflaga0108.jpg
What do you get with high winds and very dry conditions?
Answer is a Red Flag Warning. No fire folks.
Via NWS:

…RED FLAG WARNING NOW IN EFFECT FROM 9 AM THIS MORNING TO 5 PM
EST THIS AFTERNOON…

WITH THE ARRIVAL OF COLD AIR…BLUSTERY NORTHWEST WINDS WILL INCREASE TO BETWEEN 15 AND 25 MPH WITH GUSTS TO AROUND 30 MPH
DURING TODAY. RELATIVE HUMIDITY WILL DROP TO AROUND 25 PERCENT. ANY FIRES THAT OCCUR MAY QUICKLY BURN OUT OF CONTROL…ESPECIALLY IN
AREAS OF TALL GRASS AND LEAF LITTER.

ANY BURNING SHOULD BE POSTPONED UNTIL THE DANGER SUBSIDES. IF YOU SPOT A FIRE NEAR YOUR LOCATION….CALL THE FIRE DEPARTMENT OR 911
IMMEDIATELY.

A RED FLAG WARNING MEANS THAT CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE LIKELY. A COMBINATION OF STRONG WINDS AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY WILL CREATE ADVERSE CONDITIONS FOR FIRE CONTROL.

Rain and thunder

Talking to all these folks returning form Maine, Minnesota and elsewhere and then seeing the official forecast calling for cold, 40 degree weather made me laugh.
We don’t know what cold is round here. But we will see some 20s at night.
And, it did just thunder. To many of us that means snow within 10 days or so. So maybe winter is here after all.

Rainwise, we’ve got about a half-inch on the gauge at noon and more on the way.
