  7.28.00 - 3:38pm

Three days, one weekend, away from the first shoot. Past time to start the journal. Three days before pre-production is over. All the work, auditions, script writing and revising, buying props, gathering of a crew is almost a thing of the past. In production, all that matters is getting the shots off and making the film match what's in your head. In production, it's my job to recreate my dreams.

I woke up at 7:30am to go over to Jim Sutherland's apartment to pick up the light kit, some light stands, and the dolly. The dolly's new home is the back seat of my car. I only got four hours of sleep last night. I had to go have a few drinks with Richie over in Durham to clear my head. Too much thinking in one short period of time. That's all pre-production is...constant thinking. Cast, wardrobe, locations, props, crew, lights, lines, shots, shoot times, extras.

I think we are going to get a great restaurant for the restaurant fantasy scene. A place in Hillsborough called Café 101 is close to being down. I'm going through a co-worker, Darcy Gunn, who has an "in" with the owner. I checked out the place two mornings ago. Perfect - white table clothes, a mahogany wine bar, crystal glasses everywhere. Hillsborough, though, is 20-25 minutes away so we are going to have to get some extras to make the drive with us. I think ten extras spaced out will be fine. Along with Duke, Shady, Katie, the Waiter, and four Badass guys, the extras are going to be packed in.

To make the scene believable...
