Two great pictures of the shoot at Café 101. That article will be great for promotion and sending this thing off to festivals.
Thursday's shoot was a disaster. We had everything set up. But wait, Nick calls Wednesday night and says that Matt Knight needs his equipment back tomorrow...and for all next week. There's not really much I can do. I make a call to Elan Dassani, who says he can get me a DV and tripod. They bring it to the party. The tripod sucks and the camera is ok, but shitty compared to the XL1. Then the bomb drops: they forgot the AC adaptor. And the battery has like 20 minutes left on it. After we do one across the room shot and one bit on dialogue, its down to two minutes left. Impossible. Plus the fuckers at the party were so uncooperative. They would walk right in front of the actors when we explicitly told them not to. There was a time when I almost cried. Everyone tried to make me feel better, but I got over it. One failed shoot out of a lot. The truth was, we had shot for five straight days. I was dead tired, and my wits were not the keenest. I was pissed because I bought a full keg for the party's sake. I fucking threw that back in the car and took it to the house. No party, no keg. It's now sitting at the house, slowly getting empty. I got some rest, went and saw "Chuck and Buck", the first DV feature that is a "normal" movie. It was definitely entertaining, but the quality was less than perfect. We got some shots that will blow them out the box. Now, I'm trying to get another XL1 from zoomculture, or maybe from Matt Knight at night. In the meantime, I'm calling that guy Jeff about editing, and am going to edit like the dickens every second that we're not shooting - which may be a lot of time in the next week. |
