divya     mālya       āmbara      dharam     divya     gandha        anulepanam
divine    garlands    garments    wearing    divine    fragrances    anointed with
sarva    āśhcharya-mayam    devam    anantam      viśhwataḥ    mukham

divi          sūrya    sahasrasya    bhavet    yugapat           utthitā

infinite    arms    stomachs    faces     eyes

without end    not    middle     no    again    your    beginning

form     magnificent    your    many    mouths    eyes

many stomachs    many teeth       terrifying

nabhaḥ-spṛiśham     dīptam       aneka    varṇam
touching the sky    effulgent    many     colors

teeth       terrible    and    your    mouths

vaktrāṇi    te      tvaramāṇāḥ    viśanti     daṁṣṭrā    karālāni    bhayānakāni     kecit           vilagnāḥ          daśanāntareṣu        sandṛśyante    cūrṇitaiḥ    uttama-aṅgaiḥ
mouths      Your    fearful       entering    teeth      terrible    very fearful    some of them    being attacked    between the teeth    being seen     smashed      by the head

yathā    nadīnām          bahavaḥ    ambu-vegāḥ
as       of the rivers    many       water waves

tava    api     vaktrāṇi    samṛiddha-vegāḥ

lelihyase          grasamānaḥ    samantāt
you are licking    devouring     on all sides
lokān     samagrān    vadanaiḥ       jvaladbhiḥ
worlds    all         with mouths    blazing
tejobhiḥ         āpūrya         jagat           samagram
by effulgence    filled with    the universe    all
bhāsaḥ    tava    ugrāḥ     pratapanti    viṣhṇo
rays      your    fierce    scorching     Lord Vishnu

ākhyāhi    me    kaḥ    bhavān    ugra-rūpaḥ
tell       me    who    you       fierce form
namaḥ astu    te        deva-vara      prasīda
I bow         to you    God of gods    be merciful
vijñātum    ichchhāmi    bhavantam    ādyam
to know     I wish       you          the primeval
na     hi         prajānāmi     tava    pravṛittim
not    because    comprehend    your    workings

śhrī-bhagavān uvācha
the Supreme Lord said
kālaḥ    asmi    loka-kṣhaya-kṛit                           pravṛiddhaḥ
time     I am    the source of destruction of the worlds    mighty
lokān         samāhartum      iha           pravṛittaḥ
the worlds    annihilation    this world    participation
ṛite       api     tvām    na bhaviṣhyanti         sarve
without    even    you     shall cease to exist    all
ye     avasthitāḥ    prati-anīkeṣhu          yodhāḥ
who    arrayed       in the opposing army    the warriors

tasmāt       tvam    uttiṣhṭha    yaśhaḥ    labhasva
therefore    you     arise        honor     attain
jitvā      śhatrūn    bhuṅkṣhva    rājyam     samṛiddham
conquer    foes       enjoy        kingdom    prosperous
mayā     eva       ete      nihatāḥ    pūrvam
by me    indeed    these    slain      already
eva nimitta-mātram    bhava     savya-sāchin
only an instrument    become    Arjun, the one who can shoot arrows with both hands

droṇam         cha    bhīṣhmam    cha    jayadratham    cha
Dronacharya    and    Bheeshma    and    Jayadratha     and
karṇam    tathā    anyān     api     yodha-vīrān
Karn      also     others    also    brave warriors
mayā     hatān             tvam    jahi    mā     vyathiṣhṭhāḥ
by me    already killed    you     slay    not    be disturbed
yudhyasva    jetā asi                   raṇe         sapatnān

etat    śhrutvā    vachanam    keśhavasya

kṛita-añjaliḥ        vepamānaḥ    kirītī

namaskṛitvā          bhūyaḥ    eva       āha      kṛiṣhṇam
with palms joined    again     indeed    spoke    to Shree Krishna
sa-gadgadam             bhīta-bhītaḥ             praṇamya
in a faltering voice    overwhelmed with fear    bowed down

Arjun said
sthāne           hṛiṣhīka-īśha                              tava    prakīrtyā
it is but apt    Shree Krishna, the master of the senses    your    in praise
jagat           prahṛiṣhyati    anurajyate     cha
the universe    rejoices        be enamored    and
rakṣhānsi     bhītāni      diśhaḥ               dravanti
the demons    fearfully    in all directions    flee
sarve    namasyanti    cha    siddha-saṅghāḥ
all      bow down      and    hosts of perfected saints

kasmāt    cha    te     na nameran                  mahā-ātman

pitā          asi        lokasya                   chara     acharasya

mayā     prasannena       tava        arjuna    idam
by me    being pleased    with you    Arjun     this
rūpam    param     darśhitam    ātma-yogāt
form     divine    shown        by my Yogmaya power
tejaḥ-mayam    viśhwam    anantam      ādyam
resplendent    cosmic     unlimited    primeval
yat      me    tvat anyena       na dṛiṣhṭa-pūrvam
which    my    other than you    no one has ever seen

Verse 48
na     veda-yajña                     adhyayanaiḥ              na     dānaiḥ
not    by performance of sacrifice    by study of the Vedas    nor    by charity
na     cha    kriyābhiḥ     na     tapobhiḥ          ugraiḥ
nor    and    by rituals    not    by austerities    severe
evam-rūpaḥ      śhakyaḥ     aham    nṛi-loke
in this form    possible    I       in the world of the mortals
draṣhṭum      tvat        anyena        kuru-pravīra
to be seen    than you    by another    the best of the Kuru warriors

mā te               vyathā    mā     cha    vimūḍha-bhāvaḥ
you shout not be    afraid    not    and    bewildered state
dṛiṣhṭvā     rūpam    ghoram      īdṛik    mama       idam

vyapeta-bhīḥ      prīta-manāḥ      punaḥ    tvam
free from fear    cheerful mind    again    you

iti     arjunam     vāsudevaḥ                      tathā          uktvā

āśhvāsayām āsa    cha    bhītam        enam
consoled          and    frightened    him
bhūtvā      punaḥ    saumya-vapuḥ                   mahā-ātmā
becoming    again    the gentle (two-armed) form    the compassionate

dṛiṣhṭvā    idam    mānuṣham    rūpam    tava    saumyam    janārdana

now       I am    composed      in my mind    to normality    have become

su-durdarśham                      idam    rūpam    dṛiṣhṭavān asi         yat      mama

the celestial gods    even    this    form       eternally    aspiring to see
